VICTORIA FALLS
Located between Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and Namibia’s Caprivi strip, Victoria Falls is the ideal gateway to a unique African Wildlife experience. With airports in Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe), Livingstone (Zambia) and Kasane (Botswana), several flight options are available, making this an ideal destination to add on to your South African / Kruger National Park wildlife experience.
The mighty curtain of water that forms Victoria Falls is known by the locals as Mosi-oa-Tunya or “Smoke that Thunders”. The Falls mark the dramatic transformation of the placid, slow-moving Zambezi River into a raging torrent that crashes into a foaming chasm before racing through gorges carved deep below where it once again slows down into a ribbon of tranquility. The Victoria Falls is 1 708 meters wide, making it the largest curtain of water in the world. It drops around 100m into the Zambezi Gorge and an average of 550,000 cubic meters of water plummet over the edge every minute.
Victoria Falls is without doubt the Adventure Capital of Africa. Activities range from tranquil sunset cruises on the mighty Zambezi River, to canoeing to white water rafting, helicopter flights over the falls and many more. Although the falls can be viewed from both the Zimbabwean and the Zambian side, guests are reminded that, during winter, the view is a lot better on the Zimbabwean side.
