Day Tours

From walking in the footsteps of South African stalwarts to an exciting Soweto cultural experience, there’s plenty to see and do on our various day tours.

If there’s one thing you need to know about South Africa, it’s that it’s a country steeped in history (some of it painful) as well as cultural diversity.

That’s why our day tours are so worth a try. Depending on which tour you choose, you can experience a Joburg walking tour, and visit several well-known South African tourist attractions, like Mandela House Museum, the Apartheid Museum and the vibrant and busy, Vilakazi Street.

What to expect

Our day tours cover several relevant sites and take you on a journey through South African history. Want to know what you’ll be experiencing when you sign up for them? Check out the itineraries below.

The Ultimate Johannesburg and Soweto Tour

We’ll start off with a Joburg walking tour, in and around Marshalltown, and then we’ll visit Satyagraha House - the house where Mohandas ‘Mahatma’ Gandhi lived between 1908 and 1909. Then, it’s over to Houghton for a drive past the Mandela home (did you know that it’s here that Madiba spent the last days of his life?), which is still a private residence.

Our next stop is the Rosebank Art & Craft Market for a little shopping and some lunch (own expense). From there, we take a drive to the Apartheid Museum, a monument dedicated to South African history, showing the world that our country has come to terms with its past and is working towards a better future.

After the museum, the tour continues to the South of Soweto where we’ll pass several South African tourist attractions like FNB Stadium and the colourful Cooling Towers, and we’ll then stop at the vibrant, Vilakazi Street. Here, we’ll visit the Mandela House Museum and drive past the Hector Pieterson Memorial on our way back to the hotel.

Some important info to remember would be that this is a full day tour, that starts around 06:00 and ends at 17:00.

*The tour might deviate according to traffic and time available.

Tour Soweto

On this Soweto half day tour, expect to see many iconic, South African tourist attractions. Our tour starts at the Apartheid Museum, which has been created by a team of curators, filmmakers, historians, and designers to include film footage, photographs, text panels, and artefacts. It’s a must-visit for everyone wanting to learn more about South African history.

The museum has a series of 22 separate exhibition areas that’ll take you through significant events from those times. From there, we’ll drive to Soweto South, where we’ll spend some time at the Mandela House Museum, which has been restored with the aim of preserving the history, heritage and legacy of the Mandela family.

After our tour of the museum, we'll pass the Hector Pieterson Memorial and end our tour at the vibey and colourful, Vilakazi Street. There are stalls along this street where you can purchase beautiful items to take home to your friends and family and it’s a great place to enjoy a true Soweto cultural experience. You’ll return to your hotel after this.

Remember, this is a half day tour, and it is set to run from either 11:45 to 17:00 or 08:30 to 12:30.
