Travelling to a new country

Travelling to a new country has to be the most exhilarating experience (that and skydiving, of course!) … and it’s especially overwhelming if you’re travelling alone. In fact, a lot of our safari guests are usually first-time visitors to South Africa, so if there’s one thing we understand, it’s our guests’ need to feel as prepared as possible.

Top Tip - There are a lot of positives to experiencing new places so we’ve found a few tips for you to keep in mind when visiting a country for the first time.

Keep an open mind

this is probably the most important tip. Experiencing new cultures can be an adjustment at first but in the end, it’s usually worth it. So listen to the stories, try new things … go for it!

Do a little research

if you want to experience the most of the country you’re visiting (of course you do!), it always helps to read up about it, the culture, the people and, most importantly, what events or celebrations might be happening there (PS: if you plan on visiting SA anytime soon, we’d happy to give you a little advice … just give us a call).

Learn the language

now we’re not suggesting that you do a full-on course but it does help to learn a few key phrases - it’s all part of the experience, after all!

Don’t overplan

if you plan every moment of your trip, you leave out the opportunity for spontaneity … and that spontaneity is usually what leads you to the fun stories and memories that you share with the family when you get back home.

Eat up

family restaurants and local eateries usually serve up local dishes and delicacies so why not give them a try instead of the restaurant chains you’d find at home? You might just find yourself a new fave dish.

We hope that we have made your bags lighter, and given you something to get a conversation going with someone as well as to travel more.

Until next time… Ready, Steady, TRAVEL!
